Playing Pickleball on Vacation in Miami: A Quick Guide

By The Lab3 min read

The short answer

Yes, you can play pickleball on vacation in Miami without a membership. At The Lab, create a free account, book an $18 drop-in, and play level-matched open play (Mon–Thu 6–9 PM, Sat–Sun 9 AM–12 PM). Bring your DUPR rating, or message us before your trip to book the club rating session. Paddle rentals and free parking are on site.

Can you play pickleball on vacation in Miami?

Yes, and you don't need a membership. At The Lab, you drop in for $18 a session with a free member account, and you play open play on a court matched to your level.

You don't need a partner or a group. Come alone, or bring your travel crew.

Where is it, and how far from where you're staying?

The Lab is at 1255 NW 135th St, North Miami, FL 33168, with free on-site parking.

Our visiting Miami page lists approximate road distances. Roughly: about 10 miles from Downtown Miami, about 13 from Miami Beach, and about 15 from Miami International Airport. If you're staying in South Beach or Brickell, plan a bit longer in traffic; driving time varies a lot by time of day.

How do you book before your trip?

Book ahead so your first day is just playing:

  1. Create a free member account on Playbypoint. It's free and unlocks the $18 drop-in.
  2. Sort out your level. Bring your DUPR rating, or message us to book the weekly club rating session.
  3. Book your sessions from the schedule.

Open play times:

Day Open play
Monday–Thursday 6–9 PM
Friday Friday Socials (times coming soon)
Saturday–Sunday 9 AM–12 PM

What if you don't have a DUPR rating?

Courts at The Lab are split into 3.0–3.6, 3.7–4.4 and the 4.5+ Challenge Court, and every session is DUPR skill-verified. That's what keeps games competitive, including for visitors.

If you have a DUPR rating, you're set: DUPR is the same scale everywhere. If you don't, the club places you at a weekly club rating session. The day and time aren't announced yet, so message us before you travel, especially on a short trip. Here's how the rating session works.

Do you need to pack a paddle?

No. The pro shop has paddle rentals and demo paddles, plus gear from brands like RPM and Joola. Pack these instead:

  • Court shoes. Running shoes don't grip side to side the same way.
  • A hat and sunglasses for getting there and back.
  • A water bottle. Light snacks and drinks are also available at the club.

If you've been meaning to try a new paddle, vacation is a good time to demo one. See how to choose a pickleball paddle.

When is the best time to play on a Miami vacation?

It depends on your trip:

  • Weekend mornings (9 AM–12 PM) let you play, then head to the beach.
  • Weeknight sessions (6–9 PM) leave the day free and avoid the midday heat.

Miami is warm year-round. Drink water before you play, not just during.

What does a week of vacation pickleball cost?

Drop-ins are almost always the right call on a short trip:

Sessions during your trip Cost
2 $36
3 $54
5 $90

The 10-pack ($150, valid for 60 days) only beats drop-ins if you'll play 9 or more sessions within 60 days. That's more of a snowbird plan. See a snowbird's guide to pickleball in Miami. Traveling with your own group? A court rental is $25. Compare everything on the membership page.

What will open play be like?

You play 2+ hours nonstop, with no waiting between games, against players at your level. Whether you're staying in Wynwood or Doral, you get a full session of real games, not time on the bench.
